PDFOverlay not showing

I just installed Adobe Acrobat 9 and created a PDF to use as an overlay with PDF Report Wrtier ( )

However when I create the file in report writer the overlay does not show. Its like its a blank page. If I use the old pdf overlay (created from a previous version of acrobat) it works. Its something to do with the way the PDF is generated in acrobat. Can anyone give some direction on how to get the overlay to display. Thanks

problem with -bmkeep option

For many years now we have been happily merging PDFs with meld on Solaris. For the first time, we wanted to retain bookmarks so -bmkeep seemed exactly waht was wanted, but it did not work. Not only does it not retain bookmarks, but it still adds in the filename as a bookmark. We are running version 5.0, but bmkeep is listed as an option by this version. The PDFs are created by distiller 9. Any ideas?

URGENT: Unable to merge large pdfs

I am trying to merge two files whose sizes are 1.15GB and 24 KB respectively. [Don't ask why, it's just a thing we do ]

As an output from Meld, we get a 1KB file.

Is it a known problem ?
Is there a limit on file sizes ?
Do we have a solution for that ?

Cannot print?

Hi, not sure if this is the right place in the forum to ask this - What if I have a pdf file that I actually PURCHASED - that is, it's a downloaded product I bought. I was able to open and view it, but I cannot print it. It's just easier for me to read if it's actually printed. I can save it to the computer but cannot print at all. Any thoughts on that? I made a PDF from a Microsoft Word document. So far so good. Now what is the best way to protect my PDF eBook to ensure I don't get thousands of unauthorized copies of my PDF eBook floating around the internet?

I don't want to use a simple password to protect the PDF document, because judging by the amount of unauthorized PDF copies of other eBooks I have seen available on the internet, that security method is very weak.

Re-Routing Output

I have text2pdf installed on my PC running Windows XP Pro. I want to route all the outputted files onto our central document server. I can do this my mapping the destination folder as a "mapped drive" on my system, but this conflicts with some other software.

I want to be able to reference the document server either by its name or IP address.

If I use text2pdf test.txt z:\test.pdf (where "z" is the mapped folder PDFDocs on the document server), this works fine.

If I use text2pdf test.txt \\Docserver\C:\PDFDocs\test.pdf I get the error :
Cannot open output file \\Docserver\C:\PDFDocs\test.pdf.

I have checked that this is not a permissions issue as I have tried to reference a folder on my own PC and it still did not work.
Please advise as to how this can be resolved.

PDF Report Writer : Asian Fonts and Password Encryption

There is one issue that I would like to address with regards
to pdfrw.
We’ve been using password encryption in our generated
Reports for a while now. However, when we have decided
to use Asian fonts (Simplified Chinese), the pdf cannot be
read by the Adobe reader.

This is the error we get “Cannot find or create the font
‘STSong-Light-GBK-EUC-H’….”.
Somehow, the encryption is breaking something internal
in the pdf structure.

Com Object Problem loading on older windows clients (windows 2000)

We have upgraded to the latest version of PDFMeld recently and have noticed that it now takes about 45 seconds for the com object to load in our .Net application on older computer OS's (windows 2000 specifically). We don't see the delay on computers running Windows 7.
Do you know of anything specific that might be causing the problem?

Tool to Print a PDF in Postscript

I have a problem, where after merge form data into a PDF document, I want to sent the resulting pdf to the printer. I have been using the print command from the shell option of a .Net application, but that loads Adobe Reader and prints the file as a post script file. The problem with this solution is my user environment. Citrix thin clients with limited memory. As more users log on to the Citrix server, the slower adobe will open and print files. Adding the following condition, Batch printing multiple documents, causes huge delays as adobe opens and closes between files. Are there any Quick print utilities available with Fytek?

Elusive Process

I am currently using the command line process in a batch format with a DAT file. I would like to add the following after combining my documents. My current assignment is to assemble 10,000 documents into 400 separate pdf documents and assign a password to open each PDF along with giving the user only the ability to print the document. No other features should be available. These documents are offical and need to stay exactly "as is". It seems that opening a PDF with a password is not available. Unless I am missing someting. I know that that -O and -U protect the PDF, but not from opening.

Please provide a sample line that would combine three files (a.pdf,b.pdf,c.pdf) into a new file (d.pdf) and password protect the new file so that a user would need to the password to open the file. Once open the only option the user has is to view or print, nothing else.

All help is greatly appreciated. I love your product......

two wishes for the DLL users

Hi all,

I would have two small requests (again, I know), fairly important for us the DLL users:

1. could you make available for download the DLL WITHOUT the EXE kit? Or as a ZIP? We are all adults here and as we requested the DLL we know how to regsvr32 a DLL ourselves, no need to always place it for us in Windows/System32...

2. it would be immensely helpful when the DLL would carry more meaningful version information in it. You offer almost weekly updated versions for download, but their version stays always 10.3.0.0 - no human way to tell whether I've got the latest or not or which one exactly...

Special page order extraction method available?

Hi,

Is there a way to extract pages from a large pdf document in groups of 2? What I'm trying to do is extract pages 1&2 together, 3&4 together, 5&6 together, etc. Basically, every two pages (in order) represents a unique two page document.

I know I can do something like -pages 1-2,3-4,5-6 but with a huge input file this would take a long time to create the string (say, with a 1000 page document). I searched the documentation but couldn't find a way to easily do this.

As always, any help is appreciated!

Burst option slow on large files

Hi,

Is there a faster way to extract all the individual PDF pages from larger files than using the -burst option? It works great, but on files >500 pages it gets exponentially slower. My guess is it requires a read of the input file each time it extracts a page, and the larger the file, the longer each page takes to extract.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it can take many hours to extract all the pages of larger files.

I noticed a huge increase in extract times (using the -burst option) when files contain more and more pdf pages. My guess is it's because pdfmeld needs to open the input file each time it extracts a single page.

Since I don't think there's any way around this, I may need to split the larger files into smaller parts, then use the -burst option on the smaller pieces. I have the command to break the file into pieces, but I can't seem to find a way to retrieve the total pages in the file. Is there a variable for this, or is there a faster way to extract the pages than using -burst?

-fdfout encrypted and not accepted by Adobe reader

Using PDFMELD program on Windows XP, I find that the FDF file created using -fdfout is encrypted, and is not accepted by Adobe Reader X.
The encrypted file is rather difficult to (text)edit.
It looks like the typical cryptic second line in the FDF file is missing (it is similar to the 2nd line in PDF files).
A zipped exported FDF file is attached.[attachment=18]

Text inversion and quoted brackets

I am using PDFMELD thus:
pdfmeld.exe INPUT.PDF output.pdf -fdfin FieldData.FDF

The PDF has 7 pages with 200-odd fields and uses Zapfdingbats font for some button captions. Some fields in the FDF file have ( ) in their data.

The output file, when viewed with Adobe Reader 10...
1. shows the brackets quoted \( and \)
2. does not show the Zapfdingbat symbol in some button captions on page 5
3. some fields on later pages appear with the text inverted.

I can provide the 3 files by email.
